ITANAGAR, Oct 3: Along with the other Northeastern States, United Arunachal Indigenous Peoples Forum (UAIPF) organized dharna against the contentious Citizenship Amendment Bill here today. The democratic protest was held under the banner of North East Forum for Indigenous People (NEFIP).
Hundreds of members from UAIPF and Arunachal Tribal Students Union participated in the dharna.
Speaking to media, President UAIPF-Laffe Paffa informed that similar protest is being organized today in all the northeastern states under NEFIP. ‘We strongly oppose the central government’s decision to re-introduce CAB in parliament. Once CAB is passed in parliament and becomes a law, illegal immigrants will get right to settle in our land which is a threat to indigenous people.'We appeal the government to recall its decision to re-introduce CAB in the coming session of Parliament. Moreover, UAIPF in collaboration with NEFIP is going to submit the memorandum to the government, informed the President while adding that both organizations will organize more protests in the coming days phase wise if the government fails to give heed on our demands.
Further, he appealed the people of the state as well as NGOs, CBOs and students organization to come forward and join the movement.
Earlier, President Arunachal Tribal Students Union (ATSU) Techi Baba, Organizing Chairman cum AGS, UAIPF Kutung Jomoh also appealed the people to join the movement.
