SEPPA, Mar 23:The All East Kameng District Students’ Union (AEKDSU) on Thursday called off its proposed peaceful dharna on March 26 after reaching an agreement with the District Administration.

The AEKDSU on Wednesday had decided to go for a peaceful dharna as the first phase of its agitation against the East Kameng District Administration, demanding eviction of illegal settlements at Government higher secondary school Seppa, shifting of rope wire suspension bridge construction from Middle school, Pacha, transfer of DDSE and BEO, Seppa and immediate demarcation of all government schools in the district headquarters.

AEKDSU President, Chakang Yangda, announced after a meeting with Seppa Deputy Commissioner Gaurav Singh Rajawat, ADC D. J. Borah, PD-cum-Vice chairman EKSWCO Dahey Sangno and executive bodies of AEKDSU, that the union would suspend their agitation and give time to authorities concerned to fulfil the demands.

A resolution was also passed after the meeting, it was decided that a review committee shall be constituted at EAC level including EE PWD, DDSE Seppa, CO (LM) and Headmaster Pacha Middle school to look into the matter of bridge construction from the school compound.

The DA also agreed to carry out eviction drive at GHSSS premises following due procedures of law and assured to survey and demarcate all school lands at the earliest.

Regarding the union’s demand for transfer of DDSE and BEO Seppa, the DC informed that it is not under his purview; he however guaranteed to set up an enquiry team against them.
