BHALUKPONG, Oct 18: Irked by the lackadaisical attitude of the North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Ltd (NEEPCO Ltd), the project affected people of Kimi and adjoining areas have called a three-day peaceful democratic agitation against the hydropower developer and distributor.
Spokesperson, Aka (Hrusso) Elite Society- Sheriff Nimasow, stated ‘Seventeen years on, the promises made by NEEPCO to repair the road falling under the project affected area continues to remain unfulfilled. The project affected people have a very simple and genuine demand to repair the road and create job employment opportunities, which has fallen on deaf ears’.
‘Despite repeated pleas and prayers to NEEPCO authorities, including Ministry of Power, Government of India, and no concrete response has materialised till date. Moreover, despite maximum cooperation from the local affected people and non-interference in the project affairs, NEEPCO has shown a very indifferent attitude towards the genuine cry of the local people,' added the spokesperson.
Further, he alleged that NEEPCO has not been able to show any correspondence whatsoever with the Ministry/Authorities regarding the concerns of the local affected people and the excuses for a ban on recruitment as cited by them.
Till the charter of demand is fulfilled, the project affected people have resolved to go on three days peaceful democratic agitation from October 21- 23 next at Kimi, he said in a press statement.
