PASIGHAT, June 23: Department of Indigenous Affairs in collaboration with the District Administration organized a one-day workshop on Preservation of Priesthood Culture on Saturday at the Pasighat Engo Takar Dere.
Pasighat East MLA,Er. Tapi Darang who attended as chief guest stated that priests are the backbone of society and are responsible for the growth of indigenous religion. He urged the priests to perform their duties diligently and to uphold their cultural and spiritual responsibility.
JNC Principal, Tasi Taloh who attended as guest of honour also appreciated the priests for their role and activities maintaining integrity.
The event commenced with lighting of lamp in front of the Golgi Bote Talom Rukbo followed by floral tributes by the dignitaries present on the occasion.
DACO cum Nodal Officer, Indigenous Affairs, Mannong Tayeng threw light on the aim and objectives of the workshop and emphasized the importance of shamanistic traditions and their role in modern society and advocated for reform of conservative system of priests.
Dr. Tajom Tasung, Tatdo Borang and Dr. Delong Padung were present and spoke as resource persons. In his deliberation, Dr. Tasung opined that government should provide honourarium to all the spiritual priests and advised the priests to maintain health and hygiene, abstaining from alcohol upholding ethical standards. They must be known for their selfless services and generosity and shouldn’t engage in unfair activities, he said.
Tatdo Borang said priests are God gifted and must maintain decorum in maintaining preservation and protection of priesthood, culture and traditions and allow scientific justification in their activities.
Dr. Delong Padung stated that the priests are being respected by society since ancient times as they are holding spiritual powers and the younger generation should follow the path shown by our forefathers.
IFCSAP President Ajem Tayeng, CDPYK General Secretary Basing Yosung and East Siang Tabe Association President Obang Taruk also spoke and shared their views.
