Yupia, Mar 17: For ensuring women reservation in the approaching Panchayat elections, a draw of lottery for deciding women-reserved seats in 16 Zilla Parishad segments, Gram Panchayat Chairperson and Gram Panchayats of Papum Pare district was held here at the Zilla Parishad Conference Hall on Tuesday.
The draw was conducted in presence of Deputy Commissioner Papum Pare Pige Ligu, Additional Deputy Commissioner-cum-DPDO Tabang Bodung among others and representatives from various segments of the district’s panchayats.
After the draw, it was found that out of 16 Zilla Parishad seats, a total of 5 comprising the Tarasso, Upper Balijan, Kakoi, Mengio and Parang segments will be reserved for women. In Gram Panchayat Chairperson, out of 98 GPC seats, 32 will be reserved for women candidates and in Gram Panchayats, out of 394 seats, 125 have been earmarked for women.
The lottery draw was conducted under the strict supervision of EAC Geram Jongkey and under guidance of ADC-cum-DPDO Yupia.
On the sidelines of the draw, District Medical Officer gave an awareness briefing on coronavirus and demonstrated hand washing techniques to the people present. She also talked about Dulari Kanya Scheme and Chief Minister Arunachal Arogya Yojana (CMAAY) and requested all to spread more awareness on the precautionary and personal hygiene norms. DIPRO
