ITANAGAR, Feb 14: The state’s lone regional political party Peoples Party of Arunachal (PPA) has urged the Prime Minister of India to amend the existing Article 371 –H of the state and give the constitution rights at par with the state of Nagaland placed under Article 371-A which allows them rights on all their resources.
The existing Article 371-H deprives the tribal people of the state as it doesn’t mention anything about the ownership rights of its resources and preservation of the indigenous customary rights. Other than special power bestowed on the Governor of the state, the Article is silent on ownership aspects and our people seem to be ignorant about it, stated PPA in a release.
The party further asserted that, Arunachal Pradesh being one of the most resourceful states in the country has remained dependent on the Centre. However amendment of Article 371-H to Article 371-A will change the scenario of the state, it stated.
