NAHARLAGUN, Apr 9: The People’s Party of Arunachal (PPA) has strongly condemned the BJP for including the promise of passing the Citizenship Amendment Bill 2016 in its election manifesto.
In a press release issued today the party’s president Kahfa Bengia, said that with the promise of passing CAB, BJP has shown its anti-tribal colours once more whose hidden agenda is to de-tribalise the Northeast. Objecting to the tribal food habits of eating beef, unsuccessful attempts to pass CAB & giving PRC to non-APSTS only show the anti-tribal ideology of the party, he said. The day is not far when the BJP will repeal the provision of Inner Line Permit, just like the way they have promised to repeal Article 370,which provides special status to Jammu and Kashmir, the PPA president feared. Had the BJP really cared for the state, it would have amended the defective Statehood Act and taken Arunachal out of the purview of Article 371H, he said.
The party also commented that it is disappointing when a certain BJP parliamentarian from Arunachal West, who is also regarded as the face of Northeast at the Centre bats for the passage of the CAB.
If the CAB is implemented it would pave the way for granting Indian citizenship to the Chakmas who are Hindus and Hajongs who are Buddhists living in Arunachal since decades, the press release said. PPA Press Release
