TAWANG, Dec 5: The Fact Finding Committee on erratic and poor cellular network and data connectivity services in Tawang district made a site visit to all the cellular towers installed from Dzela upto Jang Bazaar.
The committee was headed by Chairman Lobsang Tsetan PD DRDA along with Secretary DLSA Tawang Damge Niri, ADC Jang Lobsang Wangchu Bapu, EAC Choiki Dondup, DSP Thuptan Jambey, executive engineers of electrical and hydro power departments and representatives of service providers like BSNL, Vodafone & Airtel. After making inspection, the committee found that the cellular tower installed at Dzela belonging to BSNL and currently shared by Vodafone on rental basis is backed by solar power since the DG set installed is not functioning with no regular staff posted to look after it. It was also found that the cellular tower of Vodafone at Nuranang is of a very low height and there is no power supply backup and a private engineering firm stationed there for construction of Dzela tunnel has assured to provide power supply. Vodafone officials agreed to complete the cabling for power supply from this firm up to the tower within ten days to avail the free electricity connection. Towers installed near Jaswant Ghar memorial belonging to Vodafone is functioning properly and power backup capacity has also been increased. The other towers of all service providers up to Jang Market were found functional with necessity for minor rectifications, which has been assured to be completed within one week. The committee also found that most of the towers are functioning without staff, the mini BSNL exchange at Jang although functioning properly is facing staff deficiency and providing 2G services only and the DG sets installed are not functional.
ADC Jang has been entrusted to inspect the works as assured by the service providers to be completed within stipulated time frames and site visit from Lhou up to Tawang shall resume on Dec 7 next. DIPRO
