Emphasizing on skill development which is essential for Human Resource Development, Parliamentary Secretary for Home & Education, Pani Taram, in the inaugural session of the 3rdRegional Workshop on Technical Education for Polytechnics of North Eastern States today at Dirang called upon the participants to give thrust on technical education as the Polytechnics have been a late starter in the region especially in Arunachal Pradesh.

Observing that infrastructure development and financial resources are the main hurdles for the Polytechnics to make their mark, Taram urged the Director of the National Institute of Technical Teachers Training and Research (NITTTR), Kolkata, to pursue the matter with the ministry of Human Resource Development (HRD). He also remarked that, the faculty of the Polytechnics needs to be well trained, knowledgeable, oriented and keep oneself abreast of the modern technology in order to produce skilled and competent graduates.

Earlier, ADC Dirang, D Riba in his address hoped that the Regional Workshop would provide the right platform for the Polytechnics of the North-east to discuss at length the matters related to the development of the Polytechnic education in the region and to chart out a road map accordingly.

Director NITTTR Kolkata Prof. Phalguni Gupta and Director Higher & Technical Education, GoAP, Dr. T Padu also spoke during the inaugural session while the programme Coordinator Prof. SK Naskar dealt on the objectives of the Workshop.

The two days Regional Workshop for Polytechnics of NE states began today at Dirang where the deliberations would be centred on the issues related to the development of the Polytechnic education in north east.

Earlier in the morning, the Parliamentary Secretary visited the Government Polytechnic Dirang located at Sangti valley and opined that the institute with seven faculty members and seventy two students is making a modest beginning.
