ITANAGAR, May 20: Despite deployment of sufficient security forces for the third re-poll in Nampe and  Gimba polling stations, reports coming in suggest that the situation in Nampe polling station is volatile and the polling team has faced attacks by hundreds of miscreants on May 19  last.
As per the sources, hundreds of miscreants carrying lethal weapons have destroyed EVM machines and fired bullets on the security forces at Lumbang which is around 2 hours of journey from Koloriang. Sources further added that a team of CRPF and two sections of IRBN who were on the way to Nampe for re-poll duty were stopped by around 500 people on their way. All masked man stopped the vehicle of the security personnel with local machete, sticks and even assault rifles.
When questioned on the incident, IGP and Election Nodal Officer Sunil Garg said that the reports are true and the department will take serious legal action on the matter. “There have been rumours that AK 47 and automatic guns are being used by the people at Koloriang but it is true that security personnel are being manhandled, and are left high and dry at Lumbung,” he said.
He also informed that Deputy Superintendent of Police and his team have left for Nampe last night after receiving the information of the incident. He further said that the detail report can only be shared after the team returns. IGP requested the candidates of that constituency and the people to maintain peace and let the re-poll be completed for the greater interest.
He also informed this daily that sufficient security personnel have been deployed for the conduct of re-poll both at Nampe and Gimba polling stations.
