Itanagar, May 2: A Team led by Senior Veterinary Officer Dr G Phil along with the police seized 30 to 40 kg of pork meat from the market on Friday. The Deputy Commissioner Itanagar Capital Region, Komkar Dulom vide an order had earlier banned selling of pork in the Capital Region with immediate effect. The order was issued in view of large number of deaths of pigs and epidemic type swine fever prevailing in the Capital Region and also in the neighbouring state of Assam.
Later the team disposed off the pork meat in a pit at Chimpu IMC dumping ground with thd help of an earthmover.
The DC informed that the State Government has by order banned sale of pork throughout the state and urged the denizens to refrain from selling such banned items. 
He has further appealed the owners not to throw their dead pigs in rivers or else strict action would be taken against them as per law. 
They should instead dig pits and bury the dead pigs, said the DC. He has also appealed the citizens to abide by the order and not to encourage selling of pork for their own good. He further informed that such checking drives would continue in the region in the days to come. DIPRO
