PASIGHAT, Dec 5: The Special Judge of the Pasighat District & Session Court, J. Chai has convicted a POCSO accused and awarded rigorous imprisonment of 10 years in relation to POCSO (Protection Of Children from Sexual Offence) Case No. 07/17 of Boleng PS.
The quantum of sentence was pronounced on November 29 last and as per the verdict the convict will undergo a rigorous imprisonment for a term of 10 years and has to pay a fine of Rs. 10,000, in default of which has to undergo a further SI for 6 months. The verdict has been widely hailed and the general view is such kind of punishment is the need of the hour for sending a strong message in society that no accused committing such heinous crimes will be spared. Practical experiences suggest that for expediting such cases, urgency of the medical teams examining the victim and accused, coming forward of witnesses and prompt police investigation are all necessary for delivering justice.
