ITANAGAR, Oct 9: The Deputy Commissioner Capital Complex Prince Dhawan today launched the Plastic-free Itanagar Campaign at Donyi Polo Mission School for the Hearing and Visually Impaired, Chimpu.
The campaign is an initiative of the Magic Club, Arunachal in collaboration with district administration Capital Complex on the occasion of its 5th Foundation Day.
The DC wished luck to the Magic Club and stressed that the plastic free campaign should be carried forward aggressively. He further stressed that each person is a stakeholder and it a moral obligation to keep the city clean, green and plastic free. He appreciated the initiative of the club which channelized its energy in a constructive and productive way. He stressed that the youths should come forward and support the cause as they are the future of the nation.
He also asked the volunteers of Magic Club to visit the schools of Capital Complex and carry out awareness campaign and do social audit, based on which the district administration will announce prizes to the clean schools. He also announced that shops that give up using plastics would also get a 50% rebate during renewal of their trading licenses.
The DC also thanked the school authorities who are dedicatedly teaching their students in various skills to bring them in to the mainstream. He also expressed happiness that many students who have passed out from the school are working as assistant computer operators in various offices.
During the programme, the DC visited the hostel area, classrooms, training centres where students are imparted training in various fields like weaving, handicrafts, typewriting, recycling of paper wastes into file covers, bags etc.
