PASIGHAT, Aug 4: Joining the rest of the state and country in the current plantation spree, Mt. Carmel English School under Adi Baptist Union (ABU) conducted a major plantation programme around its premises on Saturday which was attended by the officials of Forest & Education Departments and members & veterans of ABU Churches.
After planting the tree saplings, ACF, Kenpi Ete Jongkey and RFO Jumgo Geyi said that more plantations should be encouraged in all schools and other educational institutions besides religious organizations and groups.
“We are thankful to Mt. Carmel English School and its management including ABU President, Opang Taying and Vice President, Er. Maktil Apum for having initiated such noble work which will go a long way in developing greenery all around the school premises,” the duo said.
ABU President, SMC Chairman Obang Dupak and Principal of the school Prem Chetry said that, they will ensure post plantation care of each sapling so that the school premises go green after some years which will also help in retaining the soil of the school premises facing threat of erosion from the nearby Sibo Korong river.
