ITANAGAR, Dec 21: Governor of Arunachal Pradesh BD Mishra inaugurated a two-day workshop on ‘Building Capacities to Take Forward Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Arunachal Pradesh’ here on Friday.
In his keynote address, the Governor said that to achieve the sustainable developmental goals, the first and foremost requirement is planning and execution of schemes and projects with honesty, integrity, transparency, accountability, audit, review and mid course correction.
Advising the participants on making the developmental process sustainable, the Governor pointed out that terrorism and environmental degradation are two factors, which trip the process. He stressed that internal security must be reinforced and the environment protected at all costs. He also cautioned against forces, who are all set to destroy the State’s economy.
There are eleven basic needs of an individual, which are bread, clothes, roof, road, electricity, potable water, education, security, health, justice and work opportunity, the Governor said and added that it is within this scope that development has to be planned.
Emphasising that Antyodaya should be the ultimate goal of development schemes, where last man in the queue is benefited, the Governor said that unlike Bolsheviks World Order, the order of modern times should be inclusive growth and lift everyone up to higher niche. Aspirational District concept of the Prime Minister Narendra Modi is the right step for development, he informed.
Arunachal Pradesh has unlimited opportunity for development in various sectors, including tourism, agriculture, horticulture, bamboo related works and organic farming, provided the developmental focus is on harnessing the hydropower potential, facilitating surface movement and strengthening the electronic connectivity, said the Governor.
The Governor released a statistical book on the occasion titled ‘Arunachal Pradesh- A Statistical Profile of its Economy and Society, Volume-I & II’.
Chief Secretary Satya Gopal, Vice Chancellor, RGU, Professor Saket Kushwaha, Visiting Fellow, Research and Information Systems for Developing Countries, New Delhi, Dr. Pramod Kumar Anand, State Technical Officer, UNDP, Guwahati Supriya Khound, Special Secretary, Planning, Himanshu Gupta and Director, Planning, Pallab Dey also addressed the inaugural session.
Commissioners, Secretaries, Joint Secretaries, Directors and Chief Engineers and Deputy Commissioners and District Planning Officers are participating in the two-day workshop, organised by the Planning Department with technical support from United Nations Development Programme.
The workshop will have five technical sessions to discuss on Sustainable Development Goals and its relevance in Arunachal Pradesh, Developing an institutional structure for Sustainable Development Goals in Arunachal Pradesh, Identifying monitorable indicators and developing a monitoring system in the State, Localizing the Sustainable Development Goals in the State and Developing Sustainable Development Goals implementation strategies in the State: Way Forward.
