ITANAGAR, Sep 25: The official website of Eco-Tourism Festival ‘Papum Poma River Festival 2018’ was launched here today by Secretary Tourism, Sadhana Deori and Director Tourism, Kento Danggen. The Papum Poma River Festival will be held at Kanenbung village under Sangdupota circle, just 30 Km from the state capital, fromNovember 7 to10.

The four-day festival will offer adventure activities like white water rafting, trekking, river crossing, camping, rock climbing, etc. It will also have other activities like angling, traditional sports, bird watching, food courts, cultural extravaganza and much more.

Informing about the four-day extravaganza, Festival Director John Panye said the festival is being organized with the theme ‘By the river, for the community’, to create awareness among the masses on the importance of preserving forests and rivers. He added that the festival also aims at promoting sustainable tourism and creating avenues for income generation for youths and villagers through home-stays, tour operation, etc.

Speaking at the launch, Deori, emphasising on sustainable tourism, said that such events should not be considered as money minting ones but as a means to promote protection and preservation of nature.

Stating that it is the responsibility of the local stakeholders to ensure purity of nature, Deori said that priority should be given to contribution towards a sustainable growth of nature tourism instead of the number of tourist flow.

Terming hospitality as the greatest asset of the state, she said that it should be maintained and passed on to the next generation.

“Hospitality and purity of nature should be the trademark of the state’s tourism”, she said.

Later, the website of the festival and the promotional video were also launched.
