ITANAGAR, Jun 2:

In a shocking development, two contestants of Mrs. Arunachal -2018 announced to give up their titles after alleged mistreatment by few from the organizing team which was followed by barrage of criticism in social networking sites too for no fault of theirs.

The winning contestants, Mrs Umu Natung Rimo the third runner-up and Mrs Jingchang Chai, second runner-up (Classic category) announced to surrender their titles.

In a press conference, Uma Natung cum present Mrs East Kameng-2018 said she is giving up the title owing to continuous threat, harassment by unknown people via personal messages and in social networking which has severely affected her credibility and image.

“It all went smoothly throughout the pageant but soon after it concluded, I have been receiving lots of messages from unknown people including organizers who say that you (Uma) are not eligible for the title at all as you got zero marks and title was given to you out of mercy.”

She questioned that if she was not competent enough then why was the title given her?

“They (organizers) showed irregularity in selecting the genuine winner and it’s not my fault as I participated to bring laurels for my district,” Natung informed.

According to the duo, the celebrity guest Miss World Manushi Chillar who attended as judge also got upset and left the program midway due to clumsy set up of the event and was witnessed by everyone.

Divulging the reason behind giving up her title too, Jichang Chai, second runner-up (Classic category), alleged that she was discriminated by organizers while giving points.

She informed that the organizers gave permission to all the participants that they can take along a family member during the ramp walk. “So, I took my son with me for the ramp walk,” she added.

However much to the dismay, Chai lamented she was not given marks for the said round on the grounds that she walked with her son while other participants were given marks for reasons best known to the organizers.

Ridiculing the grounds on which her marks were deducted, Chai lamented “I thought I had entered a competition which supported the empowerment of women. But it went against everything that I stand for and it wasn't the pageant for me.”

Further, Umu and Chai informed that they were given blank prize envelopes during the event night and have not received the prize money yet.

Pooja Natung, former General Secretary of Women Welfare Organization (WWO) East Kameng, also expressed displeasure over the mistreatment meted to contestants especially against Mrs East Kameng-2018 chosen by them.

Surprised by the reports of ill treatment and accusation, she said “This was the biggest shock to me as I never expected such unruly manners from organizers.”

“We know every pageant has their own criteria but seriously we are not happy with the organizers and won’t send any contestants to represent in a platform where there is no respect for women,” she affirmed.
