TAWANG, Dec 5: A special outreach programme on “Swachh Bharat Abhiyan” was organized by Field Outreach Bureau (Ministry of Information and Broadcasting) Tawang unit at Shyo village today. The programme began with an awareness rally comprising students, teachers and locals of the village.
The motto of organizing the programme was to sensitize the local people about maintenance of cleanliness in their daily life, segregation of household waste, elimination of manual scavenging and to adopt modern and scientific waste management system.
In his keynote address, L. Dawa, FOB Head, Tawang unit explained about the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. He requested the villagers present in the meeting to join this mission by maintaining cleanliness in and around their villages and by disposing of household waste in a proper and scientific way.
In his presentation, Tenzin Phenday, consultant W/S PHED, Tawang, said that the PHED is providing three to four Solid Liquid Waste Management (SLWM) in every Gram Panchayat to enable the villagers to dispose of household waste in a proper and scientific way. The entire households are also provided with IHHL in order to stop open defecation. He also talked about the ill-effects of open defecation, use of polythene bags and ways to segregate bio-degradable and non bio-degradable waste.
The Special Outreach Programme was attended by students, teachers and more than 200 villagers of Shyo Village.
The main highlights of the day long programme were awareness rally, quiz competition, public meeting, photo exhibition and prize distribution.
