ITANAGAR, May 13: Northeast Human Rights Organization (NEHRO), Arunachal Unit has submitted a representation to the Chief Secretary appealing him to issue a directive prohibiting child labour in the state.
In its representation, NEHRO cited that the amended Child Labour (Prohibition and Regulation) Act’ 1986, makes it explicit that no child below the age of 14 can be engaged in any kind of employment vis-à-vis, there is a blanket prohibition on employing a child under 14 years of age as domestic help, or in any commercial establishment etc. While seeking complete ban on child labour, the organization also stressed on the proper implementation of Right to Education Act in the state.
