WAKRO, Feb 13:Taking the concerted drive against opium cultivation a step further, the district administration along with Central Bureau of Narcotics (CBN) and police personnel destroyed over 250 hectares of opium cultivation today. The drive was carried out in the Wakro-Medo area. Most of the illicit fields were grown in Turung Forest Reserve area and in deep pockets of the jungle.

The team comprising of SDO(S) K Karmakar, EAC Dakto Riba, PD DRDA cum magistrate Duyu Ribia, DSP Thutan Jamba, CO Une Pertin and CO Kenter Lendo met with some resistance from the locals. A government tractor was damaged by hostile opium growers while the operation was going on.

However, the drive was successful in overall due to proper coordination between the participating teams.
