Namsai, Mar 12: The City Livelihood Centre (CLC) which will serve as a one-stop shop for the Area Level Federations (ALFs) of Namsai district’s Self Help Groups (SHGs) for selling their products and services was inaugurated today here at the office premises of the Executive Engineer, Urban Development & Housing department, Namsai Division by MLA, Namsai-47 AC Chau Zingnu Namchoom.
District Urban Development Agency (DUDA), Namsai under the chairmanship of Deputy Commissioner Bijoy Talukdar has established the CLC which is a part of the Deen Dayal Antodaya Yojana-National Urban Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NULM). Along with DC who is also the Chairman of DUDA, Executive Engineer-cum-Member Secretary, DUDA Er. Mosum Sema, HoDs, SHG & ALG members and staff of UD & Housing, Namsai Division were present on the occasion.
Namchoom hoped from now onwards SHG members won't face difficulty in selling their products as the centre will help them find potential buyers. He assured to help the SHGs & ALGs financially with innovative ideas/projects and promised a sum of Rs. 25 lakh each for rural & urban areas from his MLALAD fund and stated both Central & State government are working to make all women financially independent through various schemes & skill training programmes.
DC-cum-Chairman, DUDA hoped setting up of the CLC will attract middle & higher income groups who will be able to easily access various services from the urban poor which in turn will augment their livelihoods. Applauding the SHGs for their achievement, he requested them to work in the greater cause of society like segregation of waste and avoid Single Use Plastic. Executive Engineer stated the CLC aims at providing a platform to the women SHGs where they can offer & promote their services & products in an organized manner at reasonable prices and informed that at present there are 30 SHGs & 5 ALFs under Namsai urban township.
The visibly elated ALF & SHG members were hopeful their products will now reach the masses and there will be more orders and thanked the DUDA for providing the platform.
