ITANAGAR, Oct 30: The Horticulture Department on Tuesday held a review meeting to assess the progress under various programmes implemented by the department and to discuss the modalities for implementing budget announcement schemes of 2019-20. Discussion was also held to plan the schedule of procedure (SOP) for recently announced allocation under CCI for Horticulture Sector.
All district horticulture officers DHOs and other officers from the districts and headquarters attended the meeting held in the state capital.
Secretary Horticulture Bidol Tayeng, exhorted officers to dedicate themselves for the development of horticulture as the state has huge horticulture potential. While speaking about the recent activities of the department, the Secretary said that a new direction and vision has been entrusted upon the Department of Horticulture by the government in order to double the farmers income by 2022. The state government has given major thrust to horticulture sector and increased  the annual budget manifold compared to the previous years. Therefore department has a major responsibility to live up to the expectation of the government as well as the farming community. While reminding the gathering about the PM Modi’s call of doubling farmers’ income by 2022,  he requested the officers to propose and implement the schemes at field level rigorously with timely and efficient monitoring for achieving doubling of farmers’ income.  To tap the potential of horticulture sector, private investors from processing industries may be invited in the state. He also informed that a food park is coming up at Sonajuli in Papum Pare District which will increase the demand for horticulture produce in huge quantity and that would expand the scope of area expansion and horticulture development in Arunachal Pradesh. He also suggested the officers of the districts to identify small and marginal farmers alongwith  progressive farmers while allocating schemes and also advised to coordinate with the respective Deputy Commissioners while implementing the schemes.

Earlier, Director of Horticulture, J. Rime, welcomed the house and briefed the aim and objective of the meeting which was followed by powerpoint presentation about various schemes and achievements of the department by Joint Director (Hort) Tage Tatung.
Today another meeting under the chairmanship of Secretary (Horticulture) Bidol Tayeng, was convened at Directorate of Horticutlure, with all the officers of the Directorate to fine tune the outcome of discussions and resolutions that were taken with district officers in the previous day review meeting so that implementations of horticulture schemes announced by the state government could be completed in given timeline.
