Aalo, Nov 5: The Nyirmen Festival was celebrated today with pomp and gaiety as the streets from Nehru Chowk to Gumin Kiin here in township wore a spectacular carnival look with thousands of women showcasing the rich cultural insights through dresses, folklores and traditional practices.
The festival was celebrated by Galo Women Wing of West Siang under the aegis of Galo Welfare Society. Attending the occasion as Chief Guest, Yanga Poyom Yomcha, one of the senior-most woman Priest of Galo Society said that this festival which is hailed as Women’s Day is unique as it depicts the ideals of tribal womanhood like any other ancient Indian society. Secretary GWS, West Siang Unit Nyage Loya stressed on showcasing the rich cultural heritage through such festivals and President Donyi Polo Kargu Gamgi Aalo, Mogi Ori narrated the mythology behind the festival.
President Nyirmen Festival Mornyak Loyi Ete and Secretary Gebom Ete Padu highlighted the main objectives behind celebrating the festival and expressed their gratitude to all for making it successful. Jirdin, Deyi Gumin and Hissam bagged the first, second and third prizes of Street Carnival Show sponsored by Dr. Dubom Bagra.
