ITANAGAR, Jan 25: The 10th State level National Voters’ Day (NVD) was observed in a befitting manner across the state today with the theme ‘Electoral Literacy for Stronger Democracy’.
At Borum, the day was celebrated with Yeshi Tsering, Member Arunachal Pradesh Lokayukta gracing the occasion as chief guest and State Election Commissioner, Hage Kojeen as guest of honour.
In his address, Tsering said that the day signifies the importance of voting in a democracy and to educate the young voters to participate and to renew people’s faith in election process as well. He also requested all to uphold the pledge taken during the National Voters Day and said it is our moral obligation to ensure integrity of our election process and to exercise our voting right judiciously with full understanding during any election.
He also congratulated the Booth Level Officers (BLOs) who have been felicitated for their outstanding service and advised them to continue their good works and to ensure that every eligible voters be it senior citizens or physically challenged should find their names in the voters list.
SEC Hage Kojeen also highlighted the importance of NVD and appealed the young voters to exercise their voting rights in a free and fair manner and choose leaders with good vision and ideology to maintain true meaning of democracy.
Earlier, Chief Electoral Officer, Juhi Mukerjee in her welcome address said that NVD marks the significance of the effort made by each and every voter to educate themselves and to contribute to the nation. During the programme 14 Outstanding Booth Level Officers were felicitated. Deputy Commissioner Papum Pare Pige Ligu was present among others.
At Bomdila, the day was celebrated at Buddha Peace Park to generate awareness on ethical voting. Reiterating on free, fair and peaceful elections, MLA Dorjee Wangdi Kharma urged the people especially the ‘to be voters’ to rationally and ethically vote after attaining the right age and be the torch bearers for a stronger democracy.
ADC cum Deputy DEO Gombu Tsering, ERO Sang Khandu, AERO Tenzing Yangchin, Assistant Professors Tenzing Dolma and Dr. Aruna spoke on the occasion.
The day was also observed at Aalo. Prizes for essay and other literary activities held among students to mark the day were also distributed to the winners.
The 10th National Voters’ Day was celebrated in all polling stations, administrative headquarters centers and educational institutions today in East Siang district.At Pasighat DC’s office conference hall officers and staff members observed a two minute silence in memory of Lt. HS Pandey, PRT, DE Middle School who served as one of the best BLOs, breathed his last on January 24 night.
A video show was screened and seven young voters were given EPICs. All best served BLOs of Pasighat, Mebo, Ruksin and Nari constituencies were felicitated with commendation certificates by the East Siang DEO Dr. Kinny Singh in presence of ADC Tatdo Borang, EAC (Election) Sibo Pasing, HoDs and others.
In her address, DEO Singh expressed gratitude to Election Commission of India for its efforts towards making the electoral process more vibrant and participative. She hoped that this day will inspire everyone to work towards increased voter awareness and turnout. DIPRO
