Changlang, May 9: In a major catch, Changlang Police under guidance of DGP and IGP and active supervision of DIGP (TCL) Kime Kaming and the Changlang Battalion of 9th Assam Rifles have apprehended one self-styled Captain cum Political and Revenue Officer of the NSCN (Khango Konyak) outfit Hangnang Pangtha from Khimiyang during a joint operation on Saturday.
Pangtha (31) has been arrested in connection with extortion activities he carried out in the name of the banned organization at Khimiyang and Changlang township. His apprehension is viewed as a huge setback for his organization and this is expected to block the flow of illegal money collected through forceful extortions from government officials and general public. Currently, the Changlang district police are fighting a three-dimensional war comprising the Covid-19 pandemic, insurgency and drug menace in the district. Under the command of SP Mihin Gambo, district police have effectively handled all these and the lockdown has been a success due to its strict imposition with help of local volunteers and citizens.

It will be relevant to add that the district police and security forces have worked out many important cases in last two months including arrest of SS General Secretary Enng Tujan Rekhung and his accomplice SS Lieutenant Arem Tangha in connection with abduction of one businessman from Kharsang for ransom, arrest of two active ULFA (I) cadres Jahnu Boruah and Chandrakanta Likharu from Longvi village under Nampong Circle and apprehension of SS Sergeant Moshang Thamphang NSCN(K) & Rajapio (Town Commander) Chingmong Mamai NSCN (R) from Rangkatu village under Changlang Circle.  
The district police have also arrested as many as eight drug peddlers in five separate cases including busting of an inter-state drug peddlers' racket along the Margherita-Changlang road during the lockdown period. Changlang SP
