AALO, Apr 10:

The first day of the second phase of 36 hour bandh called by Galo Students Union (GSU) in all the Galo inhabited areas of Upper Subansiri, East Siang and West Siang Districts passed off peacefully without any untoward incidents.

All the offices both Government and Private remained closed, Business community downed their shutters. In few areas, concern public also came out in the open in support of the genuine demands put forth by the GSU.

However normal life overall remained crippled as public transport kept off the roads and business establishments and financial institutions remained shut.

Meanwhile, GSU in a release has vehemently lambasted the government for its indifference towards the long standing demands of the Galo community and urged the government to speed up the process of fulfilling its promise to make LSD functional with proper infrastructure and man power.

The second phase bandh call was necessitated following repeated failure of the state government in fulfilling the assurances given to the Galo community and intentionally overlooking the genuine charter of demands submitted by the union, the GSU said in a release.
