ITANAGAR/BORDUMSA, Mar 28: In a startling turn of events, the All Arunachal Pradesh Students Union (AAPSU) has vehemently opposed the nomination of a Chakma leader for the MLA position in the 49 Bordumsa-Diyun Assembly Constituency. The apex student body had threatened to shut down the Nirvachan Bhawan if the nomination of the Chakma leader is secured in scrutiny.
Speaking to the media, Ritum Tali, the General Secretary of AAPSU, alleged that the Chakma leader, identified as one Drishya Muni Chakma, is a foreigner who used forged documents to file his nomination. According to Tali, Chakma obtained an Election ID from Delhi and filled Form-6, listing Abhaypur in Changlang District as his home address, despite actually being from Mizoram. Tali also highlighted that the status of Chakma individuals remains that of foreigners in India, as per the case filed by AAPSU in court. Moreover, Tali pointed out that Abhyapur village, listed as Chakma's residence, has only one voter.
AAPSU further alleged nexus between the Assistant Returning Officer (ARO) and the Returning Officer (RO) of the Bordumsa-Diyun Constituency with the Chakma candidate. They demanded an immediate inquiry and suspension of the officers involved.
Earlier, the controversy escalated in Bordumsa, where hundreds of people, including various student organizations, staged a protest by surrounding the RO office, demanding action against the candidature of the Chakma leader and officials.
Meanwhile, in response to the uproar, the Returning Officer for the Bordumsa-Diyun assembly constituency has rejected the nomination of the Chakma leader, bringing a provisional solution to the contentious issue.
