Khonsa, Nov 25: The Nocte community of Tirap District celebrated their biggest harvesting festival- 51st Nocte Chalo Loku at H/Qs, Khonsa maintaining traditional ethos.
Tirap Deputy Commissioner P.N. Thungon was the Chief Guest in the programme, also attended by SP Kardak Riba, Paramount Chief of Borduria & 57-Borduria-Bogapani MLA Wanglin Lowang, Rani of Borduria Chasoam Wangchadong, Chiefs, GBs, HoDs, Dance troupe from Borduria, Thinsa village, Nocte Mothers Federation and people from different villages of the district. While greeting the Nocte Community in particular and Tirap District as a whole DC urged the younger generation of the community to preserve and promote the aged old traditional culture handed over by the forefathers for posterity. On the occasion, he announced to procure one Laparoscopic Insufflator and Ring Applicator for General Hospital, Khonsa which would cost approximately around Rs. 1.50 lakh. A documentary film titled “Traditional Marriage System of the Noctes” by Dr. Watsen Bangsia was also released by DC. Tirap SP appealed the youths of the district to stay away from anti- social elements and unlawful activities and shun smuggling of brown sugar and other narcotics substances from the region. On the occasion, he announced a cash award for the meritorious/topper students of the district @Rs. 20,000 for Class-X topper and Rs. 25,000 for Class-XII topper for the academic session 2019-2020. Chief Patron NCLC,2019 cum 57-Borduria- Bogapani MLA Wanglin Lowangdong informed that this year 51st Nocte Chalo Loku is being celebrated in a very simple manner to show solidarity and pay profound sorrow to the departed souls of May 21 massacre wherein MLA Tirong Aboh and 10 others were brutally killed by militants. Earlier, in his welcome address 51st NCLC President Adv. Gulley Sumnyan highlighted the problem being faced by most of the Noctes and praised DC and SP for their presence.
Meanwhile, at Deomali ADC Headquarter Chalo Loku was also celebrated wherein Minister for WRD and Sports/Youth Affairs Mama Natung was the Chief Guest and MLA 12 Pakke Kesseng Biyuram Wahge was the Guest of Honour. DIPRO
