Rangiya, Dec 21: Arunachal Pradesh Transport Secretary Dani Salu today while attending the Divisional Railway Users Consultative Committee (DRUCC) meeting of Northeast Frontier Railway, Rangiya Division here at the Divisional Railway Headquarters, raised several issues pertaining to the activities and functioning of NFR in state.
Speaking to this correspondent, Salu said that as a representative of Arunachal Pradesh, he had highlighted several issues to be taken up by NFR for betterment of railway services for the state's commuters. He informed that issues such as routing of Dibrugarh-New Delhi Rajdhani via Harmuti-Naharlagun-Rangapara route, adjustment of timings of Guwahati Shatabdi Express from 0500 hrs to 0530 hrs or 0600 hrs with a brief stoppage at Kamakhya station were raised by him. Introduction of new long distance trains from Naharlagun to Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore via Howrah, stepping up of security inside trains especially at crime-prone stretches of Rangiya to Rangapara, intensifying patrolling in Naharlagun and Gumto Railway stations were the other requirements brought to the notice of NFR authorities. The long-pending request of the commuters for setting up an ATM at Naharlagun Railway station also formed a part of the representations, Salu added.
With regards to survey and investigation of new railway routes, the railway authorities were impressed upon for speeding up processes for the proposed railway lines like Bhalukpong-Tawng etc as well as early construction of the bridge from Naharlagun Railway station to NH-415 at Lekhi for convenience of railway passengers from Naharlagun and Nirjuli townships. Introduction of Toy Train within Tawang township and adjacent areas was also discussed, Salu divulged. While lauding the improvement in hygiene and general cleanliness in Donyi Polo Express, he also pointed out that there are further needs for improvement in both inside the train as well as in Naharlagun Railway station.
Divisional Railway Manager, NFR Rangiya Division, V.A Malegaonkar has informed that the proposal for re-routing of Dibrugarh-Delhi Rajdhani and re-scheduling of Naharlagun-Itanagar Shatabdi is under active consideration and may be effected shortly and Murkong Selek-Dibrugarh daily train service has already been introduced.
