Pasighat, Jun 14: A new fish species has been discovered from the junction of River Siku and Sirum near Gakang area under Mebo circle of East Siang District, tributaries of river Siang.
Dr. Keshav Kumar Jha, Associate Professor & Head, Department of Zoology, Jawaharlal Nehru College, Pasighat and perhaps the lone member of International Union for Conservation of Nature, Switzerland (IUCN) from the state of Arunachal Pradesh discovered the new fish species from genus Schizothorax. He has given the name of the fish species as Schizothoraxsikusirumensis by following the guidelines of nomenclature of species (ICZN, 2014).
Till date there is no record of this new fish species ever found before by any researcher in any part of India and the rest of the world.
Earlier Dr. Jha had discovered seven new species of fishes from water system of Arunachal Pradesh and Microphisignoratus was first discovered from fresh water system in Indian sub-continent from Arunachal Pradesh.
