ITANAGAR, Nov 14: The North East Students’ Organization (NESO) on Wednesday announced to launch a series of agitation region-wide in protest against the alleged failure of the Centre to ensure safety and security of the people of Northeast states.
The organization has been demanding a total withdrawal of Citizen (Amendment) Bill 2016, Foreigner (Amendment) Order 2015, and Passport (Entry into India) Notification 2015, preparation of NRC for all the states of the North East Region etc.
In a release, the NESO said that the Citizen (Amendment) Bill 2016, Foreigner (Amendment) Order 2015 Notifications issued is a threat to the language, culture, identity of the Indigenous people of North East. “We will never allow Northeast to become a dumping ground for illegal Bangladeshis nor accept the discriminatory Citizenship (Amendment) Bill that would put the identity of the indigenous people of Northeastern states at stake,” it added.
It also criticized the successive Union governments for failing to initiate a concrete step to seal the border to stop illegal immigration from Bangladesh till date. The NESO further sought support from all the political parties based in North East region in their fight against the proposed Citizen (Amendment) Bill 2016.
Meanwhile, a sit-in protest will be organized on November 20 at Guwahati by NESO which will be followed by series of protest programmes in all state capitals of the seven states of the NE Region.
