JULLANG, May 9: The Nyishi Elite Society (NES) President, Bengia Tolum on Wednesday called on the Chief Secretary at Civil Secretariat in capital and discussed the overall preparedness and arrangements in wake of the security scenario prevailing at Kurung Kumey and Kra Daadi districts.
Tolum was accompanied by Vice President (East), Tarh Tabin, Vice President (West), Dr. Tachi Taku, General Secretary Heri Maring, Secretary In-charge Kurung Kumey Gyamar Tachung and others.
Tolum requested the CS to call a meeting of all contesting candidates for a closed-door discussion for confidence-building measures to ensure a transparent, free and fair election. “We don’t want any more loss of lives and property and rule of law must prevail and we will give full support and cooperation to the administration at the social level so that peace prevails and right to vote is ensured,” NES president asserted.
He also called for proper sensitization prior to the election and tight security arrangements well in advance to thwart any kind of law and order issue. “The right to adult franchise must be ensured to all the registered voters wherever re-polling is proposed,” Tolum appealed the government.
Meanwhile responding to the viewpoint of the NES, Chief Secretary assured that administration shall put all-out efforts in maintaining law and order situation. CS while seeking support and cooperation from the NES in tackling law and order also informed that he has been in constant touch with the DC and SP of Kurung Kumey.
Both the IGPs and SP, Capital Complex gave a detailed account of handling the issues at Kurung Kumey and Kra Daadi districts where a major chunk of security forces are available since day one and ground work preparations for re-polls are in full swing. On the appeal of the NES, the administration and the top cops assured to intensify frisking at the Naka points and strengthen the Flying Squads.
The meeting was attended by Commissioner (Home) G.S. Meena, IGP, in-charge, DGP and in-charge Election Sunil Garg, IGP (Law & Order) Sagar Preet, Secretary (IPR) Sonam Chombay, SP (Special Branch) Tojo Karga, DC Capital Himanshu Gupta and SP Capital Tumme Amo.
