Agitating students refused to suspend its stir as requested by state Education Minister Honchung Ngandam on Fridayevening.
Ngandam requested after announcing that Union MHRD Minister Prakash Javadekar had telephonically assured to issue appointment order by Monday as Holi being a holiday. He also disclosed about drawing attention of Javadekar duringCentral Advisory Board of Education meeting in New Delhi and received assurance too. The state government, including governor and chief minister are with you, he said, but his assurance failed to make any impact as students continued to raise slogans, particularly against Union MoS (Home Affairs) Kiren Rijiju, including “deeds not words”, “Go back, go back”.
Students’ Union of NERIST (SUN) president Banta Natung, announced that the stir would continue till they are given proof of appointment order.
“Kiren Rijiju your promise is the biggest joke of the decade”, read a poster while Natung said that while Rijiju failed to fulfill his assurance but he came to flag off the train but did not visit NERIST which is unacceptable. “The central government would be held responsible if anything goes wrong,” he added.
NERIST now has over 2,000 students while eight students launched hunger strike since February 28 whom Ngandam met and also urged to suspend their strike but in vain.
