Itanagar, Oct 17: The North East Human Rights Organization (NEHRO) has deeply condemned the brutal behaviour of Assam Rifles which resulted in the death of a civilian from Sinnu village under Lazu Circle of Tirap district on October 13 last.
In a press release issued today, NEHRO has drawn the attention of the government towards the atrocities faced by the people of TCL area due to imposition of Armed Forces (Special Powers) Act. In connection to the repeated atrocities from defence forces, we request the government to take strong corrective measures so that such unwarranted incident doesn’t occur in days to come, the release said.
The entire area has been declared as disturbed area and with the imposition of AFSPA, Assam Rifles is somehow misusing the power in a wrongful manner and it is highly disturbing to know that people of TCL area are treated like mere objects, NEHRO alleged.
In this regard, it has already filed a complaint at the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), New Delhi urging to take appropriate action on the case. NEHRO PR
