AALO, Sep 7: The North East Frontier Technical University observed its 4th Foundation Day befittingly at Gumin Kiin today. Minister for Tax & Excise, Tourism, Art and Culture Jarkar Gamlin, Deputy Commissioner West Siang, Sode Potom, Chancellor Dileep K. Nair, Vice Chancellor Dr. Tejum Padu, Superintendent of Police and a host of dignitaries lit the candle as part of the celebration.
Addressing the gathering, Gamlin said that opening of the university at the doorsteps of the students who want to pursue further studies in different disciplines is a boon and urged students to take every benefit out of it. “Students should concentrate more in their studies to fulfill the growing expectations and aspirations of the parents. Our students use to go outside the state in far-off places in their quest for higher learning incurring huge expenditure and unfortunately many of the universities were declared fake even after admission to put many students in trouble. The NEFTU University has come up to ease such burden of the parents and students,” he added.
He disclosed that govt. has already decided to constitute Staff Selection Board to select all officials of the State through the Board and merit alone will be counted in all selections in future. He urged the faculty members coming from different parts of the country also to give their best in moulding students and bring worthy intellectuals for society. He also presented the Best Faculty Award to Jumngam Kamduk of Sociology Department, Faculty of Arts and Humanities.
In his keynote address, Dr. Tejum Padu, Vice Chancellor, NEFTU outlined the history, affiliation of the college with various education councils and various activities of the college. He said that the university is not dumping all discipline at a go but gradually striving hard to take up all possible disciplines to mitigate the educational needs of the students. State govt has set up Regulatory Commission for private universities and this university in particular undergone four layers of examinations to be recognised as a potential university. The Vice Chancellor also submitted one point memorandum of proper road connectivity to the university from Govt. H. S School to the university campus.
Minpi Doke, B.Ed. student and Liyir Bagra of English department also spoke on behalf of the students and expressed their gratitude to all for cooperation to make the event a successful one. Prominent public leaders, principals, and headmasters of various private and Govt schools also attended the Foundation Day. Cultural programmes were also presented by the students of the university.
