NIRJULI, Jun 19: NDRF Doimukh and Nirjuli police jointly rescued a young woman who was stranded in the middle of the high flowing Dikrong River near old Doimukh Shortcut, Nirjuli.
On received an SOS message, Officer In-charge Police Station Nirjuli, M Geyi along with police force rushed to the riverside immediately to rescue the woman. The Doimukh Police team led by Inspector R.Nikam also reached the spot on the otherside of the Dikrong River for help, informed Superintendent of Police, Capital, Tumme Amo.
However, for better support, NDRF team of Doimukh was called for help and later a team of NDRF Doimukh led by Inspector Ravikant arrived with boat and rescued the girl who was later identified as one Tadar Sigmak (20) of Banderdewa.
On inquiry, it is found that the girl came to Tigdo Village this morning from Banderdewa to meet her elder sister and while crossing the Railway Bridge at Tigdo at around 1000 hrs, she slipped and fell down into the river. The water current took her some 2km downstream but fortunately she was stranded on a small sandy island in the middle of the river near Dikrong colony when passersby heard her shouting for help, added the SP.
