PASIGHAT, Dec 8: As a part of the pan-India Swacchta Pakhwada initiative, cadets of the 22 Arunachal Pradesh (Independent) Company NCC Pasighat today took part in “Plogging”.
The NCC cadets started from JN College covering a distance of 5 kms and collected 30 kgs plastics and garbage from public places. A total of 95 cadets from JN College and DEM GHSS Pasighat, Associate NCC Officer Capt. Dr. KK Mishra and staff of NCC Pasighat participated in the event. The cadets of this unit also carried out similar activities in other areas such as Mebo, Aalo, Yingkiong, Rumgong and Bilat which will continue till December 15 next.
Colonel Hembrom expressed hope that this will motivate the cadets as well as make the locals aware of ‘Plogging’ which will contribute to the efforts in making the environment free of plastic and garbage. He further elaborated that ‘Plogging’ is a combination word formed by joining ‘jogging’ and ‘plocka-upp’, which is Swedish for ‘pick-up’ and is now an emerging international trend when someone picks up trash while jogging or brisk walking as a way of cleaning up litter while also taking care of fitness.
