New Delhi, Nov 17:  Union Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports organised a conference of Ministers and Principal Secretaries/Secretaries of the states/UTs and In-charges of Sports & Youth Affairs here at Vigyan Bhawan on November 15 last where Arunachal Pradesh was represented by State Sports & Youth Affairs Minister Mama Natung.
Chaired by Union MoS I/c for Youth Affairs & Sports Kiren Rijiju, the conference was attended by Secretary (Sports), Secretary (Youth Affairs), Director General, SAI and a host of officers from the Union Ministry. It was organised to provide a forum to discuss views & suggestions on various issues relating to development of sports in the country. Issues such as youth parliament, leadership amongst youth, adventure sports, NSS, NYKS & other related youth developmental issues were discussed along with elaboration on Khelo India programme, early identification of budding talents through sports competitions in all states & educational institutions at block & district levels, inclusion of fitness & sports as essential subjects in all educational institutions & bringing the subject of sports from its current extra-curricular status to a regular one. 
Participating in the meeting, Natung while having thorough discussions with Rijiju, Secretary (Sports), Secretary (YA) & DG, SAI, highlighted the major achievements in sports & youth developmental activities in Arunachal and submitted a series of suggestions for development of sports in the state. These were- inculcating a sense of fitness amongst people from all walks of life in state through Fit India movement, making sports a regular curriculum in all schools across state, introduction of a structured competition plan & strict observance of age manipulation, promotion of indigenous & tribal games, special focus on youth developmental activities & promotion of mountaineering & adventure sports etc. Apart from these he also suggested the Union Ministry to induct qualified professionals in Sports Federations instead of honorary members to bring true professionalism in formulation of sports policies at national level. Need for a well-structured National Sports Development Code (NSDC), introduction of PPP model in all sports infrastructure developments were also suggested by Natung.

The conference was attended by Ministers & Principal Secretaries/Secretaries from 28 states & 9 UTs. From Arunachal Pradesh, along with the State Sports & Youth Affairs Minister, Secretary (SYA) Ameya Abhyankar, Director (Sports) Tadar Appa, Mission Director of Khelo India Karbia Dodum & OSD to the Minister Dr. Radhe Natung attended the conference.
