RONO HILLS, Sep 14:A two day national seminar on the topic ‘Decoding the New in New English Literature ; Theory and Praxis’ got underway at Rajiv Gandhi University  today which is being organized by the Department of English ,Rajiv Gandhi University in association with ICSSR (NERC). 

While delivering the Keynote address, Prof. KC Bharal, EFLU, Hyderabad University,   explored the concept of ‘newness’ in English literary discourse. The highlight of the address was the discourse on essence of Indian literary tradition and folk literature that had always existed within as part of culture and universality of the human experience.

He emphasized the significance of transnational literature in contemporary times   and the need for effective standardized translation of the literary works.

Padmashree Mamang Dai, the Guest of honor shared her views on freedom of writing and independent thinking. She urged the writers and scholars to not be overshadowed by the influence of preconceived notions of established English literature while writing. She appealed that it was time to ‘give back’ something to our people and culture that has nurtured us for such a long time. She also emphasized on promoting the scholarship towards Arunachal history and oral literature.

Chief Guest, Prof. Tamo Mibang, Vice Chancellor, RGU spoke on the essence of literature as a medium of human thought and experience and also on the  role of literature as inspiration for revolution.

In the two-day seminar Prof. Moon Moon Mazumdar, Department of English, NEHU, Shillong will be delivering the plenary lecture. Participants from various colleges of the state and Universities like Tezpur University, NEHU, Hyderabad University, Gauhati University and RGU are attending the same.
