Itanagar, Dec 22: National Mathematics Day 2019 was observed today here at the Arunachal Pradesh Science Centre in befitting manner through a day-long programme marking the birth anniversary of the Indian mathematician genius Srinivasa Ramanujan.
Director cum Member Secretary, Arunachal Pradesh State Council for Science & Technology C.D. Mungyak elaborating the importance of Mathematics in day-to-day life urged the teachers and students to treat the subject without fear, reminding its capacity to increase the analytical powers of mind and the role it plays in various academic phases. HoD (Mathematics) DN Government College Dr. K.K. Rai and HoD (Mathematics), Rajiv Gandhi Government Polytechnic College Arun Joram were the Resource Persons and both highlighted the life history of S. Ramanujan and his enormous contribution to the subject. During interactive session, usefulness of Mathematics was also discussed. More than 200 students along with teachers from various schools of Capital Complex and officials of APSCS&T were present on the occasion.

In the written quiz competition held on December 15 last wherein 155 students from 15 schools of Capital Complex took part, Agnik Mandal and Abhishek Singh of Class-X of VKV Vivek Vihar achieved the 1st and 2nd ranks, while Hroodra Pratap Singh of VKV Nirjuli came 3rd. In the poster competition category, Techi Nossu of Donyi Polo Vidya Bhawan, Kritikka Barman of VKV Vivek Vihar and Hashi Piya of VKV, Nirjuli stood first, second and third respectively. Mementos and certificates were distributed to the winners by the dignitaries.

The programme was organised by APSCS&T, Department of Science & Technology supported by the National Council of Science & Technology Communication (NCSTC), DST, GoI.
