BORDUMSA Feb 10: Taru Tana an established National Highway contractor of Arunachal Pradesh was kidnapped from his Goju village based rented office cum residence in Bordumsa in Changlang District of Arunachal Pradesh here Fridayevening at around 9.30 pm.
According to sources, Tana was alone in the said residence when banging of window pane was heard by the land lady who sensing the gravity of the circumstances didn’t dare to interfere.
'We heard some commotion outside and felt uncomfortable in the absence of male folk in the house to rush and check things under the cover of darkness, ' said the 81-year- old land lady this morning.
'Tana who was in media following allegations of executing sub standard works by a section of local people of Bordumsa earlier was reportedly demanded one crore as extortion money by suspected NSCN (IM) of which a partial payment was made while outstanding amount as committed remained to be paid for a significant amount of time,' disclosed a close associate of the victim on the condition of anonymity.
The incident surfaced this morning when the contractor was found missing and the window panes were broken while the gadgets in the room were also scattered. Blood droplets in and around the room indicates that the victim might have resisted and tried to escape but was eventually subdued and taken hostage.
This daily’s attempt to reach out to the OC Bordumsa for his statement went unanswered.
It may be added here that for past two years M/S Puna & Hunda construction company has been carrying out the Buri Dehing Trans Arunachal Highway Road stretching at a distance of 23 kilometers connecting Magantong in Bordumsa to Mahadevpur in Namsai District. Several AXX Road maintenance jobs in Bordumsa on Assam jurisdiction were also accomplished by the company here ahead of the Sahitya Sabha.
It may be recalled here that Devendra Kumar Sinha (58) who was the Government Resident Engineer cum Acting Team leader (VSPL)Mahadevpur-Buridehing serving the National Highway and Infrastructure Development Limited under Ministry of Roads Transport and Highway, Government of India had been kidnapped by the militants here in November from his hired room near ADC residence at Bordumsa.
The security forces of Arunachal Pradesh were on their toes to free the hostage. The Bordumsa based 23 Coy Punjab Regiment of Indian Army, Arunachal Pradesh police, IRBN, CRPF are carrying out joint operation to release the victims.
