ITANAGAR, Jan 24: Along with the rest of the country, National Girl Child Day was observed today in the state with the objective of raising awareness among people about the discrimination and exploitation faced by the girl child in society. 'Beti Bachao Beti Padhao' pledge taking by various government departments all throughout the state was the common feature of the celebrations.
Department of Women and Child Development celebrated the day at Oju Welfare Association (OWA), Naharlagun. Tree plantations in the name of all girl children of Child Care Institute by I/c Director WCD Department N. Ringu at the institute's premises was the highlight of the occasion. Besides distributing gifts to the girl children of Shishu Greh, she administered the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) pledge and urged all to stop gender discrimination and change the mindset of giving preference to the male child. Prizes were given to the winners of painting competition which was conducted a day earlier on the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao theme. Videos on women achievers like world boxing champion Mary Kom and Everester Anshu Jamsenpa were screened.
Chairperson OWA Ratan Anya expressed gratitude to WCD Department for celebrating the day at OWA and said it was an encouragement for them to work selflessly for the needy and downtrodden.  CDPO Hq Kago Asha Lod and Superintendent, WCD Department Kesang Ngenda also attended the programme.

In Lower Dibang Valley district, the day was celebrated at VKV Auditorium, Roing with participation by students and teachers from different schools, government departments, NGOs, mothers of newborn girl children, BBBP local champions, CDPOs and field functionaries.
DDSE Ego Doye administered the BBBP pledge and celebrated the birthdays of all girl children present by cutting cake and giving them gifts. All the Resource Persons spoke on the importance and value of girl child in Indian society. 
In East Siang district all government departments and educational institutions observed National Girl Child Day with the ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ theme which is a central flagship programme of the union government.
At DC’s office in Pasighat, ADC (Hq) Tatdo Borang while elaborating on the objectives of the day, said that girl child deserves special attention and all flagship programmes initiated by the central and state government should reach every girl child. He administered the ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ pledge. 
In Mebo ADC Hage Lailang and at Ruksing ADC Kabit Apang also administered the pledge in their respective offices. With DIPRO inputs
