ROING, Jan 24: The national girl child day was celebrated today in the Lower Dibang Valley district, to mark the 4th anniversary of 'Beti Bachao Beti Padhao' scheme under the theme 'empowering girls for a better tomorrow', at VKV Prayer Hall, Roing in the presence of DC Mitali Namchoom, Everesters Tine Mena and Muri Linggi, HoDs and officials of WCD department.
Speaking on the occasion, the DC stressed on the need for all round development of girl child. She said that women should have equal rights, have the freedom to express themselves and not be questioned and have the freedom to choose for themselves.
She advised all the students to get sensitised, sensitise their family members, friends and others and spread the message of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao.
Everesters Tine Mena and Muri Linggi shared their experiences and narrated about the struggles they overcame.
The day also saw the celebration of Beti Janmotsav where institutionally born girl children in the month of December were given their birth certificates and gifts. Tree plantation drives, talks on health, doctors talk on health hygiene, nutrition and PCPNDT Act and career talk shows were also organised in the district as a lead up to the day. DIPRO
