Itanagar, Jan 24: The National Girl Child Day was celebrated across the state today marked by various activities to raise awareness on government initiatives to protect and promote the girl child.
PASIGHAT: The East Siang Women and Child Development Department observed the day at the Mirbuk Community Hall, Pasighat. The main participants were adolescent girls, pregnant and lactating mothers, pre-school children, Supervisors, Gramsevikas, SAs, Anganwadi Workers, Anganwadi Helpers. The main event of the programme was distribution of Child kits, Nutritive Food items to the Nursing Mothers of Female Babies and Administered pledge of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao.
In his brief address, Chief Guest Sumut Tasung appreciated the Women and Child Development Department for tireless efforts to take active part in the various women and child welfare related programmes being implemented in the district.
Deputy Director (ICDS) Machi Gao highlighted the objectives of the programme under the scheme of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao(BBBP) and elaborated about importance of celebration of “National Girl Child Day” (NGCD)2024. She informed that, NGCD was first initiated in the country by the Ministry of Women and Child Development in 2008. It serves as a reminder to address the major challenges being faced by women in the society like inequality (gender bias), discrimination, sexual abuse, exploitation, and many more and further added that every year on this day, awareness campaigns are organised across the country spreading the message of girls' empowerment and equality.
These initiatives serve as reminders to society about the significance of offering equal opportunities and respect to every girl. In her message Gao urged to celebrate the strength, resilience, and limitless potential of every girl with a mission to empower and uplift women/girls to reach for the stars and shape a future filled with equality and opportunities.
Yingkiong: Joining rest of the country, District Administration, Upper Siang in collaboration with Department of Women and Child Development, Yingkiong celebrated National Girl Child Day at Govt Town Primary School, Yingkiong in a befitting manner today. The programme was graced by the Deputy Commissioner Hage Lailang alongwith Superintendent of Police Token Saring, DMO Dr.Gepeng Litin, DAEO Norbu Tsering and others.
While extending his greetings of National Girl Child Day, the Deputy Commissioner spoke on the importance of empowerment of every girl child, accessibility to proper education and gender equality. While sharing some personal experiences of childhood days, DC Lailang narrated how status of a girl child has changed over the time and said that today girls are far better than boys in all spheres and even doing exceptionally in competitive exams too. He also encouraged the students particularly CBSE aspirants to study hard and pursue their dream with hard work, patience and perseverance to live up to the expectations of their parents and always try to become good citizens of the country. He also administered pledge on Beti Bachao Beti Padhao to all participants.
Superintendent of Police Token Saring also spoke on the occasion and said that it is very important to teach safe and unsafe touching rules to students as it will help them recognise unsafe situations if they come across anywhere and asked the students to take such teachings seriously. He further advised the young minds to stay away from drugs which may spoil their life.
As part of motivation to Class-X students who are going to appear in CBSE were also felicitated and plantation drive to promote Beti Bachao Beti Padhao was conducted in the school premise.
Namsai: Deputy Commissioner C.R Khampa, while highlighting the importance of the day pointed that the sex ratio of Namsai District according to 2011 census was 984 and said the effort is to equalize this ratio.
He added that the Government has implemented several initiatives to protect and promote girl child. Through programs like PCPNDT Act, Dulari Kanya Scheme, Beti Bachao Beti Padhao, Poshan Abhiyan, POCSO Act, reservation of 33% seat for women in PRI, Government is doing its best efforts to empower and protect girl child from the moment they are conceived till they attain womanhood. He stated that for such initiative to be effective, grassroot level awareness must first be raised.
Additionally, he discussed the equally vital topic of self-independence. Citing the example of the female officers working under his administration, he urged the students to get inspired and serve as role models for others in near future.
SP Namsai S. Thinley gave the assurance that the police department is always available to extend their assistance in cases of harassment or abuse of any kind, during his deliberation on POCSO Act.
CDPO Namsai gave a brief presentation on Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) scheme and its implementation in Namsai District.
The celebration witnessed felicitation of winners of sports/wall painting/poster/slogan writing organized under Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) scheme.
District Level Task Force Meeting-BBBP was also convened alongside.
