Governor PB Acharya met the members of ‘Nagrik Bhaichara Samitis (NBS)’ – Citizen Fellowship Committee, a brainchild of the Governor, at Raj Bhavan, today. Principal Secretary Home Satya Gopal, Director General of Police, Sandeep Goel, senior citizens, professionals, Panchayat leaders, businessmen from Pasighat, Aalo, Daporijo and Capital Complex NBS were present amongst others.

In the maiden meeting of the Citizen Fellowship Committee, the Governor called upon the members present to be nodal agents for changing the mindset of the common citizen towards the Police. He exhorted the members to promote amity amongst the people.

The Governor also advised them to create awareness on welfare schemes of the State and Central Governments for the poor disadvantage and discriminated sections of society. He also stressed on initiatives towards preservation of environment, adoption of Government schools and on regular fruitful meetings of NBS. There must be representatives from agrarian and unorganised labour communities, he stressed.  

The Director General of Police, Sandeep Goel informed that on the initiative taken by the Governor, ‘Nagrik Bhaichara Samitis’ are being formed in each district. The Samitis, under the chairmanship of District Superintendent of Police, will have around 10 members from different walks of lives who have good reputation, including professionals, teachers, businessmen, women, students etc. The purpose of the formation of these samities is to bring police closer to the public and address common problems in an amicable and constructive manner. The Samitis will have regular meetings and will also take up social service activities like visits to schools, hospitals, jails, orphanages etc. as for now.

Already Nagrik Bhaichara Samitis have been formed in 12 districts in Arunachal Pradesh, i.e. Papum Pare, Siang, East Siang, West Siang, Upper Subansiri, Upper Siang, Lohit, Namsai, Lower Dibang Valley, Changlang, Tirap and Longding, the DGP informed.
