MEDO, Jun 28: To spread the joy of reading and inculcate reading habit among the people here particularly the youths, the Medo Youth Library, a unit of Lohit Youth Library Network (LYLN) was unveiled on Sunday by DC Lohit Prince Dhawan in presence of former MLA Sokia Dellang and others.
Impressed by the rich variety of books and the efforts displayed by the LYLN volunteers, DC extended his gratitude to the Coordinator of LYLN, S Mundayoor for his immeasurable sacrifice in spreading the ‘Joy of Reading’ campaign to mould the rural youths of the state who are deprived from the taste of good libraries. While advising the youths to extract benefits from the newly-founded library, DC also contributed books to it. Senior Pathologist Dr S Tawsik, Director Gazetteer Sokhep Kri and various well-wishers and library volunteers were present on the occasion. Lauding Mundayoor’s passion and dedication to motivate the rural youths, Dr Tawsik hoped that the campaign will help in inculcating better values among them particularly in areas plagued with the menaces of opium cultivation and addiction.  One of the important feature of the library is the unique reading campaign vividly pursued by the young reader-activists and volunteers in rural areas, marked with storytelling, reading sessions, recitations and skits in English, Hindi and Mishmi languages and book exhibitions. Such engaging peer-group learning has brought smiles among the youths of Medo and other remote areas where the existence of libraries is still a dream.

LYLN Coordinator and Padma Shri awardee S Mundayoor is the brainchild of this library network. In a brief discourse he highlighted the long ordeal faced by the library movement in far-off and remote pockets of Lohit, Anjaw and Dibang Valley districts.   Poem recitations, kathak dance performance and inspiring skit presentations by George Carver were the other highlights of the programme.
