ITANAGAR, Nov 19: In response to the memorandum submitted by All Kamle District Student’s Union to the Chief Minister regarding the Kamla Bailey Suspension Bridge over Kamla river, the Chief Engineer, Highway, informed that the Ministry of Road Transport and Highway has already sanctioned repair and maintenance of four bridges on Potin-Pangin Road, including the said bridge.
He informed that the works have already been awarded and has started from Potin end. Minor maintenance and repair works viz, replacement of suspender, fixing of bolt and pins, etc. have also started in Kamla and Subansiri bailey bridges. He further informed that the major repair and maintenance works will start within this month on Kamla Bridge.
However, considering the dilapidated condition and longevity of bridges, especially of Kamla and Subansiri bailey bridges, the Ministry is requested for funding for total replacement or re-launching of entire bridge components.
He also informed that the concerned Deputy Commissioner was already apprised regarding the condition of the bridge and directed to restrict and regulate load and traffic movement till works are completed.
