ITANAGAR, Feb 13: In the wake of the central government’s failure to table the contentious Citizenship Amendment Bill in the ongoing Rajya Sabha Session, the North East Students' Organisation (NESO) the conglomeration of various students union of Northeastern states including the All Arunachal Pradesh Students Union from Arunachal have extended gratitude to the entire indigenous people of North East for the support and united stand against the bill. NESO also termed it a ‘moral victory’ for the indigenous people of North East.
“Through our united and concerted effort the Government of India has not been able table the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016 at the floor of the Rajya Sabha. NESO would like to thank all the component organizations who have worked very hard and sacrificed a lot to oppose this draconian Bill,” said NESO in its statement.
NESO also thanked the different states governments of the North East who took a bold stand on this issue, notably the Meghalaya led by Conrad Sangma, Mizoram led by Zoramthanga, different Students' Unions, Social Organisations, Women Organisations including Bihar CM Nitish Kumar among others.
We remember all those injured during this movement especially in Tripura, Manipur and Assam and salute their bravery and wish for their speedy recovery and their sacrifice has not gone in vain, NESO stated in its press communiqué.
NESO Coordinator, Pritam Waii Sonam has also hailed the unrelenting efforts put in by the RGU Students Union, RGU Research Scholars Forum, NERIST Students Union and Himalayan University SU.
