Itanagar, Mar 28: A joint mock drill on earthquake disaster measuring 6.6 richter scale was organized in Nirjuli market area by District Administration Capital Complex, NDRF, PS Nirjuli, Fire & Emergency Services, paramedics of Tago Memorial Hospital and Nirjuli market welfare committee.
To ensure effective responses by all stakeholders in case of emergency, officials of 12Bn NDRF Doimukh took active participation in planning and coordination and played a leading role during the mock drill.
As informed by DDMO ICC Moromi Dodum Sonam, an earthquake scenario was enacted where six persons were trapped in a collapsed building. NDRF rescuers used various extrication methods like rope rescue, high rise rescue, stabilization of victims, dog squad along with the safety plans of chemical, biological and radiological nuclear teams.
NDRF team showed how to rescue a victim from a collapsed house due to earthquake and initiate rescue operations from a high rise building in case of fire or other emergencies.

Commandant Umesh Kumar Thapliyal of 12Bn NDRF who led the NDRF team in conducting the mock exercise said: “these exercises ensure activation and prompt response of all stakeholders in a district and such frequent mock drills also make the district response system more effective and result-oriented at the time of actual disaster.”

Approximately 1500 people of the district, volunteers, NGOs and local people were involved in the joint mock drill. De-briefing session was done after the exercise where the observer FO DM(Hq) Beru Dulom lauded the roles of all the stakeholders. DIPRO
