Itanagar, Mar 9: Senior BJP MLA from Arunachal Pradesh's Changlang South Constituency, Phosum Khimhun died due to a sudden heart attack here on Saturday. He was 63 and is survived by his wife and two children. A four-time lawmaker, Khimhun was holding the post of Advisor to Public Works Department, PWD (Eastern) at the time of his demise. He was first elected from the Changlang South seat as an Independent MLA in 2004 elections. In 2009 polls, he retained the seat as a Congress nominee. In 2014, he again won the seat fighting as a People's Party of Arunachal (PPA) candidate and in 2019 as a BJP nominee. Meanwhile,
Chief Minister Pema Khandu has expressed his deep condolence over the demise of the legislator. "I am shocked at the passing away of BJP MLA Phosum Khimhun from Changlang South assembly constituency. My deepest condolences to the bereaved family members, friends, kin and followers!" Khandu posted on the microbloggig site X. He said that Late Khimhun was dedicated to the service of his people, the region's development and growth of Arunachal Pradesh. "Will ever miss his camaraderie, and commitment and concern for the State’s inclusive progress. May Lord Buddha grant eternal peace to the departed soul and strength to his near and dear ones to cope with this agonizing moment," the Chief Minister said.
Arunachal Pradesh Governor Lt. General KT Parnaik(Retd.) also condoled the sudden demise of Khimhun. He said that in the sudden passing away of Shri Khimhun, the State, particularly the people of Changlang District has lost a veteran legislator, who made valuable contributions towards the development of the State in various capacities.
Expressing shock and grief about the sad demise, the Governor said that Late Khimhun's dedication to social causes, particularly in uplifting the underprivileged and downtrodden, earned him immense respect and admiration from the people.
In this time of sorrow, the Governor extended his heartfelt condolences and offered prayers for the bereaved family of Late Shri Khimhun. He wished them strength to cope with the loss and prayed for the departed soul to rest in eternal peace.
State Legislative Assembly Speaker P D Sona has expressed profound grief and sorrow over the passing of the legislator.
In his condolence message, Speaker paid tribute to the late leader while describing him as an experienced and dedicated figure who significantly contributed to the state's growth & development.
"In the demise of Shri Phosum Khimhun, the State has lost a prominent leader & learned senior," stated Sona. He conveyed sincere and heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, acknowledging the impact of Khimhun's legacy on the community & the state.
The Speaker prayed to the almighty God for the eternal peace of his departed soul.
Meanwhile, Vice President Muklom Elite Society (MWS) Khilnga Tekhil informed that the last rites will be held day after tomorrow at Khimiyong, the late leader’s native village.
